OnDemand Class Information

This OnDemand course provides students with convenient 24-7 online access to instructional modules immediately following registration. 

This course consists of:

  • Narrated instructional modules;
  • Downloadable course handout materials (PDF);
  • Class assignments and exercises; and
  • Practice tests.

Printed or hard copies are not provided to ASA OnDemand course registrants. Once the course OnDemand course and downloadable materials have been accessed, the course is no longer refundable.

The course and final exam must be completed within 90 days of purchase. The option to request an additional 90 day extension at education@appraisers.org is available (non-refundable fee is applicable). At any point throughout the duration of this OnDemand course, the student has the option to go back and log in to repeat and/or review any of the modules and/or practice tests. 

The final exam is multiple choice and securely administered online and remotely proctored. Additional final exam instructions will be provided within the course. 

Course Description

This is the first class of the Principles of Valuation (POV) course of study of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) for Personal Property Appraisers. The first of four (4) required courses, this course provides individuals wishing to become appraisers with an introduction to the profession and to the basic concepts necessary for appraisal practice. These concepts are expanded throughout the three remaining courses.

In the second course (PP202), participants learn about the development (research and analysis) necessary to prepare an appraisal. In the third course (PP203), participants learn about communicating an appraisal by writing an appraisal report and the fourth course (PP204) focuses on the legal and regulatory environment in which appraisers work.  Please note: these courses have been developed so that they must be taken in order.

Instructional Methods

Methods include narrated instructional modules, class assignments/exercises and practice tests.  

Course Audience

This course provides individuals wishing to become appraisers, or related professionals interested in augmenting their valuation skills, with an introduction to the profession and to the basic concepts necessary for appraisal practice. Candidates and designated appraisers who have successfully completed this course may wish to retake this class to brush up and stay informed about the currently accepted principles of valuation.
