Course Description
Focused on managing a variety of multifaceted appraisal assignments, AR203 applies methodology for coordinating, supervising, and directing a group of professionals. Complex assignments require lead professionals for planning, oversight, various directives, multiple perspectives, and considerations.

- Case studies for organizing professionals in multiple appraisal disciplines and multiple specialties within a discipline.
This course demonstrates common practices and standards of care when managing a team of appraisers, appraisal reviewers, or a combination of professionals in assignments of various capacities. Participants will conclude the class with the information and tools necessary for understanding the proper and professional coordination of a team on assignments that include multifaceted components.

Class Format - Virtual
ASA is offering the opportunity for students to attend this class live via the internet as a remote participant. Virtual students share the same educational experience as the students in the classroom and can participate live just as if they were attending physically. Also, be sure to review the Hybrid FAQ's before registering.
*The final exam will be administered and proctored the day after the last class on Friday, March 20. Exams are no longer provided in a written format and students MUST have a personal laptop or computer device to complete the secure online exam. For any exam questions or technical/logistic concerns, contact education@appraisers.org. More detailed information will be provided before class concludes.
Please note: Partial credit will not be awarded for this offering. Students must participate in all the live session(s) virtually or in-person to complete the course and receive full credit following successful completion of the final exam. AR202 is the second Principle of Valuation (POV) course in the four (4) course POV series. AR201 must be successfully completed prior to registering for this course. After successfully completing the AR201 course, AR202- AR204 may be taken in any order.

Robert Schlegel, ASA
Robert C. Schlegel, FASA, MCBA
. . . is a Principal with Houlihan Valuation Advisors, a national firm of valuation and capital consultants. Rob's professional background includes extensive work in business appraisal, marital and partnership dissolutions, estate planning, market studies, statistical analysis, and forensic accounting. He has testified as an expert in Federal and Indiana courts and has directed numerous studies of business value, economic damages and lost profits, and intellectual property matters for clients in a wide variety of industries.
A frequent author and trainer, his most recent publications include articles in Business Valuation Update, the Matrimonial Strategist (where he served on the Board of Editors), The Earnings Analyst, Indiana Lawyer, the Handbook of Business Valuation, the Journal of Business Valuation and Economic Loss Analysis, The Personal Property Journal, and as co-author of the books Valuing a Business, 2022 (with the chapter on real estate centered entities), The Art of Valuation, 2023, and Valuing Software Companies, 2005. During the past twenty years Rob has addressed many international conventions, including the Association for Systems Management, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, and the Collegium of Pecuniary Damages Experts (forensic economists), and the American Society of Appraisers. Regionally he has led workshops on corporate finance and building business value for the Small Business Administration, the Indiana Personnel Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, the Valuation Engineers of the Internal Revenue Service, the Indiana CPA Society, and the Better Business Bureau. Rob teaches financial statement analysis and valuation-related courses regularly for the Indiana CPA Society and is an international instructor for the Institute of Business Appraisers and the American Society of Appraisers for accredited valuation classes. Since 1997 he has provided regular seminars on business valuation and estate issues for ICLEF, the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum, at times in conjunction with attorneys from the Internal Revenue Service.
Rob's business career includes technical systems work for Burroughs Corporation in the 1960's and the U.S. Marine Corps in the early to mid-1970's. He served on the faculty of the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University for three years teaching courses in information system design, economics, and organizational behavior. Previously, Rob directed management advisory services practices for Price Waterhouse in Central Illinois, McGladrey & Pullen in the Indiana-Tennessee region, and Ford, Brinkerhoff & Koehler in Indianapolis. In 1992 he retired as a Lt. Colonel, USMCR, with specialties in data systems, infantry, and intelligence, and held a “Top Secret” security clearance. He has been an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau “Auto Line” program for over 25 years, twice being recognized as “Arbitrator of Year.”
Rob holds an undergraduate degree in Economics (Occidental), a Master's degree in Labor and Industrial Relations (Michigan State), and completed his Ph.d candidate coursework in Management (ABD/Management Information Systems Decision Systems/Case Western Reserve). A member of the panel of commercial arbitrators for the Better Business Bureau, Rob also holds membership in the American Society of Appraisers, the Institute of Business Appraisers, and the National Association for Business Economics (where he serves on the National Economic Panel). He has received professional designations as a Master Certified Business Appraiser (Institute of Business Appraisers), and Accredited Senior Appraiser in Business Valuation and Appraisal Management and Review (American Society of Appraisers) plus four technical designations in information systems management.
From 1998 through 2000 Rob served as President of the Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers and was the Society's State Director during 2000 and 2001. He served as a Governor for the Institute of Business Appraisers from 2001 through 2008. He was elected as the International President of the American Society of Appraisers, serving from July 2010 through June, 2011, was elected a Fellow of the Society in August, 2013, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. An Elder in the Presbyterian Church, Rob and his family reside in Lawrence, Indiana.
